Frequently asked questions: Odoo Enterprise vs. ERPNext
Does Odoo replace ERPNext?
Both are full ERP suites and cover accounting, CRM, inventory and manufacturing. Odoo replaces ERPNext above all where ready-made DACH accounting, a mature front office and a dense partner network matter. ERPNext remains the better choice when consistent open-source freedom and avoiding per-user licences are the priority.
What distinguishes Odoo and ERPNext on licence cost?
ERPNext knows no per-user licence: self-hosting is free, Frappe Cloud costs a flat price of around 50 US dollars a month for unlimited users. Odoo bills the Enterprise modules per user. With many users, ERPNext is clearly at an advantage on cost.
How good is ERPNext at German accounting?
ERPNext offers solid core accounting, but German tax, DATEV, GoBD and SKR run only via partner apps such as ERPNext Germany, not out of the box. German payroll is missing entirely. Odoo brings DACH accounting close to standard, whereas in ERPNext it is partner-dependent.
Is Odoo or ERPNext more open?
ERPNext is fully open source under GPLv3 without a Community/Enterprise split and highly adaptable via the Frappe framework. With Odoo, the Enterprise add-on modules are proprietary. Anyone who wants maximum openness is better served by ERPNext, while Odoo scores with a larger ecosystem and a polished UI.
Comparing more than two systems?
This comparison puts Odoo against one competitor. If several systems are still open, a structured selection is the better route: requirements first, weighted into must, should and could, then a comparison that justifies every rating. We disclose there where we earn from a system ourselves.
