Odoo Community vs. Enterprise
Odoo Community (open source) is the free, open-source core for sales, inventory, projects and website to self-host, whereas Enterprise, as a subscription, adds full accounting, Studio, Documents, Sign and native apps as well as hosting, support and guaranteed upgrades.
Odoo ships in two editions. The Community edition (open source) is open source (LGPLv3) and free; it forms the technical core on which the paid Enterprise edition is built. Enterprise extends the core with additional apps, deeper automation, native mobile apps, bundled hosting as well as guaranteed support and upgrades. The following comparison shows the differences module by module. Switching between the editions is possible at any time without losing data.

Community makes sense when …
- the focus is mainly on sales, inventory, purchasing, projects or website/shop,
- in-house IT/hosting know-how or a partner for operations & upgrades is available,
- accounting is covered externally (tax advisor/DATEV) or via OCA modules,
- licence costs are to be kept low and custom code adaptation is desired.
Enterprise makes sense when …
- full accounting with bank reconciliation, DATEV & e-invoicing should run in-house,
- Studio, Documents, Sign, Helpdesk, Planning or Subscriptions are needed,
- native mobile apps, bundled hosting and guaranteed upgrades are required,
- support certainty (SLA, bugfixing by Odoo) and AI features are important.
Frequently asked questions: Community (open source) vs. Enterprise
What is the most important difference between Community and Enterprise?
Full accounting is the biggest difference. Community includes only pure invoicing, while double-entry bookkeeping, automatic bank reconciliation, DATEV export and e-invoicing are exclusive to the Enterprise edition. On top of that come Enterprise-exclusive tools such as Studio, Documents and Sign.
What does the Enterprise edition cost and is Community really free?
Community is free and open source under LGPLv3; only your own hosting and operating costs apply. Enterprise is a subscription per user and month: in the DACH region 19.90 € (Standard) or 29.90 € (Custom) yearly, 24.90 € or 37.40 € monthly. The promotional prices apply for 12 months, after which the list price takes effect.
Can I switch from Community to Enterprise later?
Yes. Switching between the editions is possible at any time without losing data, because Enterprise builds on the same technical core. So you can start with Community and move to Enterprise when needed.
Can missing Enterprise features be reproduced in Community?
Many gaps can be closed via free OCA community modules or custom development, such as parts of accounting. However, deep accounting automation, the no-code tool Studio and guaranteed Odoo support remain the clearest unique selling points of Enterprise.
